Fire brigade officials save 4 from drowning at Versova beach
Mumbai fire brigade officials successfully managed to rescue four persons from drowning at Versova beach on Sunday.
A family of three, Nirmit Aarya (11), mother Sharau (43) and father Manish (43), had come to the beach during the evening to spend some leisure time. But, their visit took a turn for the worse when their son was swept away by a huge wave.
Without a second’s delay, both mother and father ventured to the sea to save their son. However, in a matter of minutes, they were struggling to keep up with the waves. A 22-year-old youth saw them drowning and tried to save them, but in vain.
Onlookers immediately informed fire brigade officials who arrived at the scene within minutes. After a heroic rescue operation, officials were able to successfully bring back all four victims back to the safety of the shore.
All victims, who had sustained either injuries or had water lodged in their lungs, were rushed to Cooper hospital.
With monsoon finally having arrived in the city, fire officials have advised citizens not to venture into the sea during high tide. Moreover, with the city short of around 50 lifeguards, venturing into the sea is riskier than ever this monsoon.
