Rape victim serves notice to Salman Khan seeking Rs 10 crore in damages
The backlash from the ‘rape’ comment continues as a gangrape survivor from Hisar served Salman Khan with a Rs 10 crore damage notice on Saturday. The victim has demanded that the actor publicly apologize for his comment or face legal legal action.
Last week, the actor sparked an outrage after he compared the pain from shooting for ‘Sultan’ with that of a raped woman. While the actor was quick to realise his folly, the statement had gone viral on the internet and became a topic of national debate in less than a day.
The notice to the actor was sent by a woman who was kidnapped and raped by ten men back in 2012. Following the incident, the victim’s father committed suicide and four of the accused have been sentenced to life imprisonment.
According to a TOI report, the her legal notice reads, “My client has felt and is passing through very troublesome period of psychological trauma by heart and mind by your statement of the rape victims-like feelings in the print media and social media. Your statement dated 21-06-2016 is solely responsible for her mental and psychological degradation and she is in touch with psychiatrist for counselling.”
It further mentions, “Your statement dated 21-06-2016 is wrong, illegal and against the spirit of Constitution of India and you are liable for every type of civil, criminal liabilities.”
When the daily contacted the the victim about her notice, she said, “How can such a prominent personality use such words. We know the pains and sufferings of rape survivor. I have lost my everything – my father and I am yet to come to the terms of trauma I have gone through. How could he take such things so lightly that too to make a rape victim a laughing stock?”
The victim maintains that many rape victims, who she works with, were disturbed by the actor’s statement. Hence, she decided to take a stand against him.
