More demolition: BMC targets 3 restaurants inside Phoenix Mills in Lower Parel
The city’s civic body, continuing its drive against unauthorized extensions on open spaces, demolished encroachments of three popular eateries at Phoenix Mall in Lower Parel on Saturday.
Over a dozen members of the BMC team, led by G Ward Assistant Municipal Commissioner Bhagyashree Kapse, arrived at the mall on Saturday morning and demolished illegally constructed structures outside Starbucks Coffee, Big Kahuna and Café Moshe’s.
The seating arrangement outside Café Moshe’s on the first floor, which was encroaching on the open area, was demolished. The platforms installed outside Starbucks Coffee and Big Kahuna were also removed.
The demolition comes in the wake of increase in fire-related incidents at establishments across the city.
Following which, the BMC chief Ajoy Mehta had ordered the removal of encroachments from malls and multiplexes as a fire safety measure.
An official from the BMC confirmed that the drive will continue on Monday, wherein the civic body will take action against establishments in the nearby Kamala Mills compound.
Last month, a similar drive was carried out in South Bombay wherein encroachments by eateries like Samrat, Shiv Sagar and Salt Water Cafe were demolished. Last week, the civic body had targeted eateries around Khar and Santacruz areas.
