Major fire breaks out in Thane’s Bhim Nagar slums, cylinder blast suspected
A major fire broke out at the Bhim Nagar slums in neighbouring Thane on Monday afternoon.
The incident took place around 2 pm in one of the houses located at Bhim Nagar slums in Vartak Nagar, Thane West.
According to preliminary information, the fire was caused due to a domestic cylinder blast.
Fire officials were alerted about the mishap immediately, following which four fire tenders and two water tankers were dispatched to the spot. Fire fighting is underway as of publishing this report.
Police and Thane Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) officials, along with two emergency vehicles, are also on the spot.
Update on possible casualties, along with other details, are awaited.
Update: The fire was doused after two hours of fire fighting. While no casualties were reported, an estimated 20 huts were gutted in the blaze.
