Video: Fire breaks out at Maharashtra Nagar compound in Govandi
A massive fire broke out at Maharashtra Nagar compound in Mumbai’s Govandi area on Monday afternoon.
Details:
Location: According to preliminary information, the fire broke out in one of the godowns at Maharashtra Nagar compound in Baiganwadi, Govandi East.
Time: The mishap took place around 1:30 pm, following which fire department was alerted.
Severity: Officials from the fire department have reached the spot with 12 fire tenders and water tankers. Additional fire tenders and water tankers may be called.
Casualties & damage: No casualties have been reported till now. However, heavy loss of property is estimated.
Current status: The entire area has been engulfed in a thick cover of black smoke due to the intensity of the blaze. Firefighting is still underway as of publishing this report and further details are awaited.
Updates:
(2:30 pm) The level III fire is confined to the ground floor of the 10,000 sq. ft godown and a few others in the vicinity.
(4 pm) The fire has been brought under control and cooling operations are currently underway. A fire brigade official confirmed that no casualties were reported in the blaze.

Cause of fire: The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Earlier on Saturday, a fire broke out in a four-storey Army building in Colaba. Four fire engines and three jumbo tankers were pressed into service to control the blaze, which fortunately did not result in any casualties.
Last week, seven people were injured in a fire that broke out in a 16-storey Royal Park residential building in Kanjurmarg.
