Video: Drunk MNS workers vandalise Mahim bar, beat up staffer after being denied free drinks
Mumbai Police have booked four Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers, and arrested two of them, for allegedly vandalising a restaurant in Mahim and thrashing one of its staffers after being refused free drinks.
The accused arrived at Royal Bar & Restaurant on L J Road, Mahim around 11 pm on Sunday and ordered hard drinks. A little after midnight, they were handed the bill which they refused to pay.
Apart from not paying the bill, they argued with other customers and got into an altercation with staffers who tried to intervene.
The accused, all of whom were in an inebriated state, finally left the premises without paying the bill. However, they returned to the restaurant fifteen minutes later and started vandalising the premises with hockey sticks.
Since the owners had installed CCTV cameras near the entrance, the ruckus that took place outside was captured. However, the MNS workers also damaged tables and other items, which could not be captured as there was no CCTV inside the restaurant.
“The four accused used to have free drinks at the bar, and when we denied them the false privilege, they lost their temper and started a fight with me and the other customers,” one of the restaurant’s managers was quoted as saying.
Following the incident, Aakash Gupta (26), one of the waiters working at Royal Bar who was beaten up, approached Mahim Police and filed a complaint against the four men.
The accused were subsequently booked under section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
Police Inspector Kusum Waghmare confirmed that a case was registered against all four accused and that two of them were arrested yesterday.
Those arrested were identified as Jayesh Patel (35) and Abhishek Gupta (37). They were later released on bail. Police meanwhile are on the lookout for the remaining two, identified as Ravi alias Bunty and Sunil Pardeshi.
Cops will be using the CCTV footage from the restaurant, which clearly shows the faces of the accused, as evidence in the case.
