Two containers collide, fall on shanty near Mumbra bypass road
At least three persons were injured in a mishap involving two container trailers on the Mumbra bypass road early morning on Monday.
The mishap took place around 5 am near the Hanuman Temple opposite Mumbra Devi Temple on Mumbra bypass road when the heavy vehicles (HR 55 U 5530 and GJ 15 AT 6295) collided sideways with each other.
Both vehicles subsequently went off track, with one of them eventually landing on the roof of a house below. The house, owned by Babu Awate, was severely damaged following the impact.
Two of its occupants, Dinesh Awate and Bhagyashree Awate, suffered minor injuries in the accident. One of the container drivers, Abdul Mana, also sustained injuries and was admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A team from the Municipal Corporation’s Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), local police and fire brigade reached the spot a few minutes later with an emergency tender and rescue vehicle.
The collision affected traffic movement on the Mumbra bypass road earlier today. However, the vehicles have since then been removed and traffic flow has normalised.
Traffic police are probing what led to the accident and if any of the vehicles were speeding or had tried to overtake illegally.
