300 stations on Western Railway now have free wi-fi, another 125 to get it soon
300 stations on Western Railway (WR), including both suburban and non-suburban, now have free wi-fi facility.
“In its journey towards Digital India, Western Railway achieved yet another important milestone by scoring a triple century of free wi-fi facility on the pitch of Digital India Mission by providing this facility at its 300 stations across the division,” it said in a release.
Amalsad station of Mumbai Division of WR became the 300th station to avail the facility.
“In an innovative accomplishment, Western Railway has decided to take a huge step to provide free Wifi facility at all its suburban and non-suburban stations for the benefit of passengers,” said Ravinder Bhakar, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway.
Indian Railways has tied with Railtel Corporation of India Ltd., Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. and Tata Trust to provide the free wi-fi service, which will be extended to another 125 stations on WR in the near future.
“The work of extending it to 125 more stations is in full swing. Passengers can access high-speed Internet facility free of cost at stations for a period of 30 minutes on their smartphones and laptops and to use further they’ll have to login again. With this free internet facility, passengers can stay connected and gain the information they require,” Bhakar added.
