BJP deriving ‘sadistic pleasure’ out of Maharashtra logjam: Sena
A bitter Shiv Sena on Wednesday launched a fresh attack on its former ally BJP, claiming that it was deriving “sadistic pleasure” from the current political situation in the state.
President’s rule was imposed in the state on Tuesday after Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari sent a report to the Centre, stating that the formation of a stable government was impossible in the current situation despite all his efforts.
In the Assembly elections held last month, the BJP won 105 seats, followed by the Shiv Sena (56), the NCP (54) and the Congress (48) in the 288-member House.
With no party coming forward to stake claim in the week after the results were declared, the Governor invited the single largest party – BJP – to form government in the state.
However, despite securing enough seats with its pre-poll ally, relations between the parties turned sour following a disagreement over power-sharing, with the Uddhav Thackeray-led party insisting on the chief minister’s post.
With the BJP backing out of the race due to lack of numbers, the Governor invited Shiv Sena and later the NCP to stake claim. However, neither could get enough signatures to cross the halfway mark amid alleged dillydallying by the Congress.
In an editorial in party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’, the Sena called out the BJP for deriving pleasure out of the logjam.
“If a party with 105 MLAs could not form the government, others would struggle for sure. But it does not mean the largest party should rejoice. This attitude of deriving sadistic pleasure has pushed Maharashtra into today’s situation,” the Sena claimed.
It further stated that as the single largest party, the BJP was given “15 days” to form the government, but the Sena got merely 24 hours, terming it a “misuse of the state machinery”
“Despite having a clear idea that three parties (Sena, Congress and NCP) need to coordinate properly, the Raj Bhawan gave only 24 hours and on (their) failure (to muster numbers), the BJP was seen rejoicing, it is not a good sign,” it said.
It seems someone is happier over non-formation of government in the state, the Sena rued.
