Kandivali resident throws off purse snatcher from bike
Mumbai, a city with a population of over a crore, has no shortage of unemployed people. So, there are many who try to take the easy way out and fall on the wrong side of law. But, not everyone gets away with it.
42 year-old BPO employee, Deepal Mehta, left work around 3:45 AM last night. After leaving, Deepal headed closer to the Western Express highway and took a rickshaw to travel to her residence in Kandivali East. While she reached the highway stretch near Nesco Exhibition Centre in Goregaon East, a man riding a scooty came close to her rickshaw and tried to snatch her purse.
Deepal realized his intention quickly and held on the the bag tightly. After a few seconds, she yanked the bag so hard that the rider fell from his bike.
A Police patrol team, stationed roughly 100 meters away from where the incident took place, noticed the scuffle and rushed there immediately. Upon hearing what transpired, they nabbed the rider.
Police have identified the rider as Neeraj Govekar. Neeraj, a resident of Santacruz, told the police that he decided to target Deepal after he saw her travelling alone. Although he has no prior criminal record, he has been booked for robbery and is currently under police custody.
