Bombay HC allows opening IPL match to be held at Wankhede Stadium

The Bombay High Court grilled Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) and Maharashtra Cricket association (MCA) with it’s sharp questions as it resumed the second hearing of PIL against holding Indian Premier League matches in the state.
Pointing out at the criminal wastage of water at a time when large parts of the state are reeling under drought, the court asked, “It is a question of priority – a game or people… Are you going to maintain gardens and stadiums when people are dying? Is this what you are saying?”
To this the cricket bodies replied, “Water is required throughout the year. On match day it is not needed. So why are you against IPL? If you have to be logical then stop watering of gardens and for everything else.”
The hearing ended with HC allowing the opening IPL match at Wankhede Stadium on April 9 to proceed as scheduled. In addition, it has asked the state to file a reply by April 12 when it will decide the fate of other matches that were going to be held in the state.
