Akshay Kumar donates Rs 50 lakh towards drought relief
Akshay Kumar has certainly been doing his bit for the society.
The Airlift actor, who has a reputation of being socially aware and charitable, showed his altruistic nature by lending his support for battling the state’s drought.
At a time when 70 percent of Maharashtra’s 40,000 villages have been declared drought-hit, the Khiladi of Bollywood has donated a sum of Rs. 50 lakh to Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan – an initiative by the Maharashtra government that aims at making villages drought-proof by developing water harvesting techniques.
This isn’t the first time the actor has donated towards drought relief. Prior to this, the star had made a sizable donation of Rs. 90 lakh towards the families of 180 farmers who had committed suicide.
But, the actor’s deeds aren’t restricted to providing financial aid. After the harrowing Delhi Rape case of 2012, the actor had collaborated with Yuva Shiv Sena leader Aditya Thackeray to set up an institute to teach women self-defense.
