Was a Rs 251 smartphone to good to be true? How about a Rs 888 one!
Were you skeptical about the Freedom 251 because of it’s low cost? If yes, would a Rs 888 price tag instead of Rs 251 make the proposal more ‘believable’?
Well, a company by the name of Docoss Multimedia Pvt. Ltd made news after it’s advertisements popped up at multiple places, including newspapers yesterday. The manufacturer was offering their new phone – the X1, at a price of Rs 888. It wouldn’t have caught our attention if it weren’t for the fact that the phone was a 4 inch, 3g enabled smartphone running Android.
First, let’s get the obvious question out of the way. Yes, the phone is similar to the Freedom 251. The primary differences between the two were in the resolution (960×540 vs 800×480), storage (8 GB vs 4 GB) and camera (3MP vs 2MP) department.
In all of them, the more expensive Docoss X1 was outperformed by the Freedom 251.
If you consider that a good sign, because it’s lower specs might just ‘justify’ the price, there’s another piece of information you will find interesting. Unlike the Freedom 251, there’s no 3-4 months waiting before you get your hands on the phone. Docoss is claiming that it would accept pre-orders from April 29 and ship the phone by May 2.
But as often is the case with deals that are too good to be true, there are issues. The company’s website was registered a day back, the call center numbers don’t work despite a massive ad campaign and the company was only registered last month.
Although realistically speaking, Docoss has a much better chance of actually delivering a Rs 888 smartphone, we would still advise you to err on the site of caution. Maybe wait till you hear some actual reviews before you consider placing an order.
