Randeep Hooda called ‘anti-national’ over Gurugram remark
After SRK and Aamir Khan, Randeep Hooda is the next Bollywood actor to be labeled ‘anti-national’ over voicing his opinion.
Less than a week back, the Haryana Government announced their decision of renaming the city of Gurgaon to Gurugram citing a ‘demand from locals’. Actor Randeep Hooda, who is actually from Haryana, felt differently.
Post the name change announcement, Hooda took to Twitter to voice his opinion on the subject. The actor’s tweet read:
गुड़गाँव को गुरूगृाम करना हरियाणा की संस्कृति, बोली,इतिहास पर वार है। ग्राम हमारा शब्द ही नहीं है। ये क्यों किया गया है? #GurgaonNameChange

Although the actor simply questioned the reason for changing the name since it wasn’t in sync with the Haryanvi culture, locals and politicians from the state started sending hate messages to the actor and labeled him as ‘anti-national’ for his remark.
Hooda felt that his opinion was misinterpreted and sent another tweet clarifying is stance. His second tweet read:
मेरा मतलब है कि हरियाणा की खड़ी बोली में गॉव या गाम कहा जाता है। gurgaon Ko gurugaon भी कर सकते थे। #GurgaonNameChange

Although Hooda tried to clarify that the change from ‘gaon’ to ‘gram’ was unnecessary since the latter isn’t typically used in Haryanvi, the actor continued to get messages from irate Haryana netizens throughout the day.
Fortunately for the actor, the public’s short attention span worked in his favor and the ‘deshdrohi’ rants stopped after a day.
The actor’s next film ‘Laal Rang’, coincidentally, is Haryana-centric.
