Teen attempts suicide after parents deny money for birthday celebration

A 16-year-old boy attempted to end his life by jumping off the Vashi bridge after his parents denied him money to celebrate the birthday with his friends on Thursday night.

Fortunately, the boy identified as Nikhil Gaddam, was rescued in a joint operation involving Vashi Police, the fire brigade and a fishermen. After leaping off the bridge, Nikhil landed on a boggy ground and was stuck there, from where he was dragged out within an hour.

Though Nikhil, a Wadala resident, was fortunate enough to receive timely aid, Ganesh Patel (22) wasn’t. Ganesh’s body was found by the police floating near the banks of Vashi creek, hours after Nikhil was rescued. On further enquiry, police found out that Ganesh belonged to same area as Nikhil.

This coincidence has now led the cop to suspect a suicide pact between the alleged two friends.
