5 dead, 7 injured after speeding car rams into parked SUV near Solapur
At least five people were killed and seven others injured after a speeding car rammed into a parked SUV in Solapur district of western Maharashtra on Tuesday morning.
According to an official in charge of the Solapur rural police station, the speeding Honda City hit the sport utility vehicle (SUV) on Tuljapur-Pandharpur road at Haglur village around 4.30 am.
The SUV had been parked on the side of the road after a tyre burst.
The passengers of both the vehicles were heading towards Solapur, located over 400 kms from Mumbai, after attending a religious function in Aurangabad.
Following the mishap, the 12 victims from both the vehicles were rushed to a state-run hospital in Tuljapur where five of them were declared dead.
The deceased, yet to be identified, included three passengers of the parked SUV and two from the other car. The seven people who were injured are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The Solapur rural police, meanwhile, has registered a case in connection with the accident.
Update: The deceased were identified as Jamir Hussain Patil (32), Tipu Sultan Umarsaheb Chhapadband (26), Abdul Hussain Chhapadband (53), Amir Hamza Navandagi (50) and police constable Mohammed Akhlaqpasha Patil (26).
