AC local gets a ‘green’ makeover with new front, ladies coaches
Western Railway (WR) has given a partial makeover to the city’s first air-conditioned local by repainting its front and two coaches reserved for women passengers.
The railway authority has used a lime green colour theme for the local, signifying environment.
The ladies coaches, painted in the wake of International Women’s Day on March 8, also feature some of Mumbai’s iconic destinations like the Gateway Of India, Bandra-Worli sealink and glimpses of the city’s skyline.
“The green signifies environment and the city’s major attractions are painted on it,” Mukul Jain, divisional railway manager, WR was quoted saying.
The coaches, meanwhile, retain the existing symbol of a traditional woman in a saree which is used to highlight the fact that they are reserved for women.
The coaches were painted during the long Holi weekend. The AC local was not operated on Friday due to Holi and it underwent its regular maintenance during the weekend.
