Actor, student leader, lawyer among those booked for ‘unlawful’ protest at Gateway of India
A noted actor, a student leader, and a human rights lawyer are among those that been named in the FIR filed by Mumbai Police against the unlawful assembly at the Gateway of India earlier this week.
The Colaba Police have registered an offence against more than 350 persons for the 34-hour-long protest at the Gateway of India, during which thousands had gathered to condemn the attack inside the campus of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
According to officials, TV actor Sushant Singh, former JNU student Umar Khalid and human rights lawyer Mihir Desai were among those booked for unlawful assembly and violation of Mumbai Police Commissioner’s prohibitory orders.
TISS professor Meena Gopal, student leaders Shefali Saini, Bilal Khan, Suvarna Sable, and Feroz Mithiborwala have also been named int he FIR.
Further, some of the people named in the FIR by Coloba Police station also feature in another FIR registered at the Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg Police for protesting at Hutatma Chowk.
The protest at Gateway of India started late Sunday night, barely hours after masked men armed with sticks and rods attacked students, teachers, and damaged property on the JNU campus.
