The cricketer drove on to platform 1 of Andheri Station

In yet another security breach at Andheri station, a Ranji cricketer drove his car on to the station’s platform during the peak hours on Monday morning.

The incident took place around 7:30 am, when the driver, identified as Harmeet Jasbir Singh, drove on to the platform 1 of Andheri station. The platform is used by Harbour line trains.

According to eye witnesses, many commuters who were waiting for their trains were left confused and started panicking after seeing the car entering the platform.

However, RPF quickly arrived at the spot and escorted the car towards the exit, following which the driver was arrested.

“The 25-year-old drove his Hyundai Verna (MH-01-BK-9009) on the platform from the entrance near McDonalds. We believe took a wrong turn and entered the station by mistake. He has been arrested,” a senior WR official told Local Press Co.

Harmeet has been booked under section 154, 147, 145(B), 145(C) and 159 of the Railway Act. The offence is serious and can lead to a three year jail term. The cricketer has represented India at the 2012 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

RPF has also made him undergo a medical examination to ascertain if he was driving under the influence. The report of the test is awaited.

Incidentally, this the is second time a car managed to enter Andheri station in the last 3 months.

Back in November, a sleep deprived driver had entered the platform accidentally via the ramp located at the Jogeshwari-end.

At the time, Andheri RPF had claimed that a particular section was not barricaded due to the ongoing track extension work and that temporary arrangements had been made to prevent such instances from reoccurring.

Update (5:30 pm): Harmeet granted bail by Andheri Court.

NOTE: The report earlier mentioned the name of the accused as ‘Harpreet Singh’ instead of ‘Harmeet Jasbir Singh’. The same has been rectified.
