Fire breaks out at forest area near Aarey Colony, Goregaon
A major fire broke out in the vicinity of Aarey Colony in Mumbai’s Goregaon area on Monday evening.
According to the BMC’s disaster management cell, the fire broke out around 6 pm in the forest area at General Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg near Infinity IT Park in Goregaon (East).
The affected area is located close to Aarey Colony and Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
Mumbai fire brigade was alerted about the mishap at 6:28 pm, following which three fire engines were rushed to the spot. Officials from the forest department are also on the spot.
No casualties have been reported till now and efforts to contain the fire, which is still spreading, is still underway. Further details are awaited.
Aarey Colony, regarded as the lung of the heavily urbanized Mumbai, has been in the news in recent times owing to loss in green cover.
Fortunately for the rest of the city, several environmentalists and citizens have taken up the issue and are dedicatedly working towards its preservation.
