Retired cop’s son arrested for stealing 9 lakh from friend’s car in Sion
Police have arrested a 29-year-old, son of a retired cop, for allegedly stealing Rs 9 lakh from his friend’s car last month.
According to reports, Samit Karande had come to Sion with the intention of purchasing a second-hand SUV on January 22. Karande was accompanied by two of his friends, Shrikant Nimbalkar and Sandesh Bhatkal.
While they were checking out cars, Nimbalkar left under the pretence of some urgent work.
After Karande finalized a deal with one of the sellers, both he and Bhatkal came to the car to retrieve the bag of cash kept on the backseat. When they noticed the bag was missing, they immediately approached the police and filed a complaint.
During the investigation, cops inspected the CCTV footage of the nearby area and called Nimbalkar for questioning. While he refused to divulge any details initially, he later confessed to the crime.
Nimbalkar had reportedly spent Rs 1 lakh and hid the rest at his house. The remaining stolen amount was recovered and handed over to Karande.
The fathers of both – accused Nimbalkar and complainant Karande – are retired police officers.
