An 18-year-old youth, son of a former public prosecutor, was arrested Sunday for allegedly trying to run over a police constable in Thane city.

According to officials, the incident occurred at Teen Hath Naka at around 1:45 PM when the accused, identified as Aditya Phad, was driving a car with a black film in violation of traffic rules.

When the car jumped the signal, the traffic constable, identified as Ajit Khairmode, stopped it and asked the youth to show his driving license, a Naupada police station official said.

However, he refused to show the license and told the constable that he is the son of Maharashtra government pleader Sangita Phad and sped.

The constable sustained injuries while trying to stop the car, the official said, adding that the accused also allegedly tried to run over two other constables at the spot.

He was arrested near Nitin Company after a chase by the police.

Phad has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the official said, adding that further investigation was underway.

Sangita Phad could not be contacted for a comment.
