Alert commuters and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel foiled a distressed 54-year-old man’s attempt to commit suicide at Mumbai’s Kurla station on Monday.

The incident took place at 1:36 pm yesterday when the man, identified as Narendra Damaji Kotekar, suddenly jumped off platform number 6 and lied on the railway track.

In no time, other commuters and RPF took note of his action and rushed to his aid.

Considering the urgency of the situation and Kotekar’s unwillingness to leave the track on his own, a group of 4-5 people simply carried him to the safety of the platform.

Kotekar later confessed to the security personnel that he had tried to commit suicide after getting fed up with family issues. His relatives were alerted about his whereabouts and he was handed over to his family after counseling and police verification.

The incident was captured by the CCTV camera installed in the station premises.

Earlier this month, an RPF personnel saved a man at Kalyan station after the former failed to board the train and ended up getting drafted on the platform.
