16 injured after overcrowded luxury bus overturns on Ghodbunder Road, Thane
At least 16 passengers were injured after a luxury bus enroute to Dhangadhi in Nepal from Borivali in Mumbai overturned on the Ghodbunder road in Thane earlier today.
The accident took place around between 2 and 3 pm near Naglabunder on Ghodbunder Road.
According to preliminary information, the bus was overloaded with passengers, causing the bus to overturn after a sharp turn.
Seven injured are admitted to Vedant hospital while the rest are being treated at the Citizen hospital, confirmed Chief of Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of Thane Municipal Corporation Santosh Kadam.
Following the accident, officials from the Kasarwadavli police station, fire department and RDMC rushed to the spot and started rescuing passengers.
Kasarwadavli police are also in the process of registering a case against the driver.
This is the second major incident in the last two days where an overcrowded vehicle met with an accident and resulted in multiple casualties.
On Saturday, 6 persons from one family were killed after the Hyundai Santro taxi they were travelling in overturned on the Eastern Freeway.
