31-year-old arrested for trying to break ATM in Bhiwandi after getting drunk
Shanti Nagar police arrested a 31-year-old man for trying to steal cash from an ATM machine in Bhiwandi on Wednesday.
The accused, Siddharth Jagtap, worked as a driver with a water tanker company. On Wednesday, Jagtap was upset after his company refused to pay him his salary. To make ends meet, he decided to steal money from an ATM.
In an inebriated state, Jagtap visited the Axis Bank ATM on Wednesday morning, situated in Gayatri Nagar area, and tried to steal money from it. But despite repeated attempts, he was unable to get any cash from the machine. Following which, he went home.
When another customer visited the ATM branch to withdraw cash, he noticed the damaged ATM and informed the bank personnel, who immediately alerted authorities.
Police started investigation by reviewing the CCTV footage of the ATM, where they saw Jagtap trying to damage the machine. After probing for a few hours, they were able to locate Jagtap and arrested him from his Bhiwandi residence by evening.
He has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
