Angry over bribe case, suspended cop shoots Kalyan builder
On Friday, Thane crime branch arrested a suspended cop for firing a round at a Kalyan-based builder and an NCP youth wing leader on July 7.
Late night on Thursday, the accused, identified as BR Ghadge, overtook the builder’s car opposite a bar near Adharwadi in Kalyan and started hurling abuses at him. The builder, 36-year-old Madan Darade, decided to ignore the cop and headed towards Bazarpeth police station.
After abusing the builder for a few minutes, Ghadge took out his revolver and fired a round at him. Following which he fled from the spot. As the bullet only hit the dashboard, after breaking the windshield of the car, Darade survived and rushed to the Bazarpeth police station to lodge a complaint against the cop.
While speaking to media, Ghadge said, “Ghadge was threatening me and was demanding bribe from me last year. Despite taking Rs 1 Lakh, he kept demanding money and so I approached the Anti Corruption Bureau and filed a formal complaint which led to his suspension. Ghadge was angry that I filed a case against him and took out the revolver and fired a round. I managed to rush to Bazarpeth police station and filed a complaint against him.”
The cop, who was suspended last year, was taken into custody by the Thane crime branch on Thursday.
A case under section 307 (attempt to murder), 34 (common intent), 504 (intentional insult) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code and under relevant sections of the Arms Act has been registered against Ghadge.
The police are currently interrogating Ghadge. They have also managed to find the capsule of the bullet that was shot.
