Angry locals stage rail-roko near Dombivali station, bring CR services to a halt
Services on Mumbai’s Central line were brought to a halt on Thursday afternoon after hundreds of angered locals staged a ‘rail roko’ near Dombivali station to protest against the ongoing demolition drive.
According to preliminary information, Railway authorities had recently demolished many illegally constructed structures along the railway tracks near the Siddharth Nagar slum in Kopar, angering the locals.
To protest against the demolition, the locals staged a ‘rail-roko’ andolan, which also affected the thousands of commuters travelling on the route.
The protests started around 12 pm between Diva and Dombivali stations, affecting both up and down services on the Central line.
The services resumed after a delay of almost an hour following an intervention from the Railway Police Force (RPF) and local police. Dozens of officials had to be deployed to disperse the crowd.
Further details are awaited.
