BEST driver arrested for knocking down two-wheeler in Sakinaka, killing rider
A BEST bus driver was arrested on Wednesday morning, after he rammed into a two-wheeler in Sakinaka, killing the rider and injuring the pillion.
The incident took place around 7:30 am today morning near SJ Studio on Kherani Road in Sakinaka.
According to preliminary information, the BEST driver failed to apply the brakes on time, causing the two-wheeler to get crushed under the front side of the vehicle.
Both rider and pillion, who had suffered injuries to their head and other body parts, were rushed to Rajawadi hospital following the accident.
Meanwhile, the bus was vandalized by bystanders and locals, who blamed the driver’s negligent driving for the accident.
The rider Pravin Poojari (26), however, succumbed to his injuries earlier today. The pillion, Sumit Chandanshive (17), is still receiving treatment at the hospital.
Apart from the bus involved in the accident, another bus was vandalized by the deceased’s friends and family. Both buses have been moved to the police impound.
The situation was brought under control after police arrived on the spot and dispersed the crowd.
The bus driver, whose identity is still unknown, has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code by the Sakinaka police.
