Bangur Nagar police arrested a drunk driver for ramming his car into over a dozen others and injuring seven pedestrians during the wee hours of Monday.

According to an official, the driver, identified as Ankit Khemka, was driving his Hyundai Santro (MH-02-NA-4422) in an inebriated state on Malad Link road late Sunday night. He was accompanied by a female passenger.

“Ankit lost control of his car and dashed into at least a dozen cars on the road, before coming to a standstill. At least seven pedestrians were injured during the incident. The exact condition of all seven is currently unknown,” he added.

According to an onlooker, the Ankit and the female passenger were arguing about something. However, immediately after the incident, the woman took off.

Onlookers immediately called the police control room, who alerted Bangur Nagar police station. The police reached the spot in minutes and arrested Ankit, who had also suffered injuries to his head.

A test revealed that Ankit was driving his car under the influence of alcohol. His blood-alcohol level was considerably higher than the permissible limit.

Ankit has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal code and Motor Vehicle Act. Meanwhile, Bangur Nagar police is trying to locate the female who was accompanying Ankit at the time of the accident.
