Drunk police constable rams into BMW, injures pedestrian at Reay Road
On Monday, Byculla police arrested a police constable on the grounds of drunk driving and injuring a pedestrian.
The incident took place yesterday, while constable Ganesh Pawar was out for a drive in his Tata Indigo. He first rammed his car into a parked BMW and then hit a pedestrian in Reay Road.
After the accident, instead of helping the pedestrian, Pawar fled from the spot.
The pedestrian, identified as Ashok Singh, sustained minor injuries on his legs and face. He was helped by passersby and taken to a nearby clinic for first-aid.
After receiving treatment, Singh, who had noted the car’s registration number, headed to Byculla police station and lodged a complaint.
The police traced the vehicle and found Pawar in an inebriated state. Pawar told the police that it was his friend’s car and he was learning driving.
The police took Pawar’s blood sample and sent it for tests. After the test reports confirmed that he was driving under influence, he was booked under relevant sections of the IPC and Motor Vehicle Act.
