Fire breaks out at Giriraj Heights residential building in Thane
A massive fire engulfed the top floors of Giriraj Heights residential building in Thane on Friday afternoon.
According to preliminary information, the blaze started around 1:30 pm on the 26th floor of Giriraj Heights building, located at Hari Niwas at Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Road in Thane West.
Fire department was informed about the incident immediately after the mishap, following which three fire engines were pressed into service. Police officials, ambulance, and other emergency vehicles are also on the spot.
The fire is suspected to have started due to a short circuit in the fourth-floor electric duct, although a confirmation from the fire department is awaited. The mishap has affected the wiring from the fourth till the 26th floor.
Firefighting is still underway as of publishing this report. No casualties have been reported and further details are awaited.
This is the second fire-related incident of the day in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Earlier today, a massive fire had engulfed Navrang Studio in Lower Parel’s Todi Mill compound. A fireman was injured in the mishap.
Update (3 pm): Fire officials have safely evacuated over 150 people from the building, even as eight fire engines continue to fight the blaze. No casualties have been reported as of 2:45 pm.
Update (3:20 pm): Fire has been doused and cooling operations are underway. Three persons who had rushed to the building’s refugee area are also safe.
