Fire breaks out at residential building in Mazgaon, 8 fire engines on spot
A massive fire broke out in a ground-plus-two storey residential building in Mazgaon on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire at Bandukwala building was reported around 12:30 pm, following which fire department was alerted about the incident. The building is located at Mathar Pakhadi Road in Mazgaon.
According to preliminary information, the fire began on the second floor and quickly spread to the remaining building due to the predominant use of wood in the building.
As of 2:30, eight fire engines, seven water tankers and five ambulances are on the spot. Firefighting is currently underway.
The building has been vacated, but at the moment there is no update on the number of casualties. An onlooker claimed that the fire was a result of a cylinder blast, however official confirmation from the fire department is awaited.
While firefighting is underway, both Anjirwadi and Love Lane Marg have been closed for traffic. Motorists travelling towards South Bombay have been diverted to alternate routes.
Further details are awaited.
Update (3 pm): Fire officials have confirmed that the fire is now confined to the second floor and is expected to be doused soon. The residents of the building have been temporarily placed in a nearby school. No casualties have been reported.
