Fire engulfs Andheri medical store, 8 dead
Around 6:15 am on Thursday, a massive fire engulfed a medical store located at Andheri, Mumbai resulting in the death of eight people.
The fire broke out at ‘Wafa’ medical store located on the 1st floor of Nigam Mistry Chawl at Juhu galli on Wireless road in Andheri. The victims and their families were staying on the first and second floor of the premises.
After fire officials reached the spot around 6:30 am and managed to douse the fire after an hour of firefighting. The victims were immediately rushed to nearby Cooper Hospital.
Eight individuals lost their lives and one is critically injured.
Mumbai Police PRO Ashok Dudhe said primary reason for fire may be a short circuit, but the exact cause of the blaze would be ascertained after a proper inquiry.
A fire brigade official, on the other hand, has speculated that the fire may have been the result of a cylinder blast. But, it is only a theory at this point.
A fire official was quoted saying, “We received a call at 6.15 am and we rushed there with three fire tenders, one water tanker and two ambulances. The fire is under control now.”
Update (11 am): Amongst the eight dead, four are feared to be children.

A fire official has also been reported injured.
