Godman who asked childless couples to have sex in his presence arrested by Thane Police

Vartak Nagar police on Thursday arrested a self-proclaimed godman for allegedly cheating a Thane couple under the guise of helping them conceive and sexually assaulting the woman.
The accused, Yogesh Kupekar, would ask childless couples to have sex in his presence in a bid to help them conceive. The 45-year-old ‘baba’ operated from a small space in Goregaon.
The baba’s wrongdoings came to light after a young couple from Thane filed a complaint against him.
The Thane couple, who was unable to conceive a child after two years of marriage, approached Kupekar in 2015. After a few sessions, Kupekar assured them that they will be able to have a kid if they did everything he said.
The godman told the couple that he would perform a ritual wherein he would get them remarried, following which they would have to consummate their marriage in his presence.
On July 24, Kupekar visited the couple’s Vartak Nagar residence and told them it was an auspicious day for performing the ritual. The couple agreed.
After performing the ritual, he asked to couple to have sex to ensure they are able to conceive. Later, he asked the husband to leave the room for the remaining ritual, which only required the wife to be present. After the husband left, Kupekar sexually assaulted the 32-year-old woman.
When the wife told her husband about the baba’s actions, he immediately filed a complaint against Kupekar with Vartak Nagar police station. The accused was arrested from his Panvel residence on Thursday and is currently in police custody.
