Matunga police foil multi-crore theft, arrest 6 men while they were planning the robbery
On Wednesday, six persons were arrested after police foiled a gang’s plan to loot diamond and gold traders from Mumbai’s Matunga area.
According to an official, the gang members, identified as Santosh Anand Hayal (21), Nepal Badal Manna (34), Sumeet Yadav (34), Rajan Nakul Das (23), Pradeep Natme (24) and Pratapsingh Dilipsingh Manchanda (58), were arrested on Tuesday.
The gang was reportedly making the robbery plan in a taxi stationed near Maheshwari Udyan, when a patrol team of Matunga police spotted them. Before the cops could even approach them, the men started running helter skelter.
A chase ensued, during which officials managed to nab six of the accused, while three managed to get away. Police is currently on the lookout for the remaining accused.
During investigation, the robbers revealed that they were planning to loot diamond and gold traders from the area. They had also made a plan to the effect. The estimated loot amount was around Rs 8 crore.
The accused have been booked under sections 399 (planning to make dacoity), 400 (punishment for belonging to gang of dacoits) and 402 (assembling for purpose of committing dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code.
