Mira Road woman tries to extort Rs 10 lakh from husband, stages own kidnapping
A 29-year-old Mira Road resident allegedly staged her own kidnapping to teach her husband a lesson for not giving her an equal share in the profits of their coaching classes.
On Sunday afternoon, Seema (name changed), left her house in Vijay Park, Mira Road to travel to the coaching class she runs with her husband. A few hours later, her husband received a WhatsApp message from Seema’s phone claiming that her wife had been kidnapped.
The kidnapper even sent a few pictures of an unconscious Seema to her husband to prove his claim and demanded Rs 10 lakh for her release.
In a state of distress, the husband approached Kashimira police station and filed a kidnapping complaint. Police immediately mobilized teams to track Seema’s location.
Since her phone, which was still in the hands of the alleged kidnapper, was still operational, cops used it to track the kidnapper’s location.
On Monday evening, cops managed to track the location of the phone to Mira Road station. Upon examining the CCTV footage of the station, they saw Seema walking alone on the station. A team was immediately dispatched and Seema was taken into custody while she was trying to board a CST-bound train.
When questioned, Seema revealed that she staged her own kidnapping to teach her husband a lesson. She claimed that they both ran the coaching class together, but her husband ended up taking a bigger chunk of the profits each month.
Seema was allowed to walk free as her husband did not press charges against her for the sake of their two children.
