Motorist refuses to pay toll at Bandra-Worli sealink, stabs attendant who stops him
In a shocking incident, a motorist stabbed a toll plaza employee on the Bandra Worli sealink on Sunday after the latter refused to let him pass without paying the toll.
According to police, the incident took place around 5 pm yesterday.
Per the complaint filed by Prabhakar Bhalekar, project manager at Bandra toll plaza, he was on duty on lane number 5 going towards Worli when the accused, Paleshwar Chavan and Rahul Rege, arrived in their Toyota Innova (MH 04 FF 1414) at the toll plaza.
The duo, in their twenties, refused to pay the toll citing their political connections and tried to flee from the spot. However, on duty staff, Amol Chavan (45), stopped their car.
Following which, the accused got out of the car and started hurling abuses and manhandled Chavan. Later Paleshwar took out a knife and stabbed Chavan on the left side of his abdomen.
The victim was subsequently admitted to Lilavati Hospital where he is still undergoing treatment. His condition is reportedly stable.
Meanwhile, both the accused have been arrested and booked under section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and other relevant sections of IPC.
According to reports, Rege had tried to flout his political clout at the toll plaza and claimed that he was associated with Shiv Sena.
Later in the evening, many Sena workers reportedly gathered outside Bandra police station and asked cops to release the duo. However, Sena Vibhag Pramukh Anil Parab has denied that either of the accused were associated with the party.
