Mumbai’s 30 lakh BEST bus commuters can go cashless, buy tickets using Ridlr app
In a major step towards going cashless, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Trust (BEST) will allow its 30 lakh commuters to book daily tickets via the Ridlr mobile app from December 10.
The facility, which was launched on a trial basis for AC buses on November 1, met with a positive response from initial users. Starting tomorrow, the facility will be extended for all 4,000 BEST buses plying across 365 routes within the city.
While the ability to book tickets without worrying about tendering exact change is enticing in itself, Ridlr will also offer the first 10,000 commuters that book tickets using its smartphone app a week’s worth of free travel, in the form of a Rs 100 credit.
The company hopes that the offer will motivate customers to go cashless while travelling on BEST buses. Users can even buy and renew both daily and monthly passes using the app.
Apart from buying BEST bus tickets and passes, users can also use the Ridlr app to recharge Reliance Metro card, buy NMMT bus tickets, get public transport schedules, live traffic updates and more. The app is available for free on the Google Play Store.
How to book your BEST ticket using the Ridlr app:
* Open the app after boarding the bus.
* Enter the trip details in the app.
* Generate token by paying the requisite amount with your digital wallet.
* Show the token to the conductor.
* The conductor will enter token and issue ticket via electronic ticketing machine.
* Collect your ticket and keep it handy till the end of your journey.
Tip: Keep adequate balance in your digital wallet (Citrus, Freecharge) before you start your travel for a hassle-free experience.
Meanwhile, the undertaking also plans to start accepting credit and debit cards at BEST bus depots and stations for renewal of bus passes and e-purse recharge.
