Mumbai’s minimum temperature falls to 13.6 degrees on Tuesday morning, lowest in a year
Tuesday morning was the coldest day of this year’s winter season so far, with the minimum recorded temperature dropping to 13.6 degrees Celsius, almost 4 degrees below average.
The temperature at South Mumbai also dropped to 17.2 degrees Celsius, 2.3 degrees Celsius below normal.
Tuesday’s temperature was also the lowest minimum temperature for January, since January 12, 2015.
Prior to today, the coldest day of the current season was January 4, when temperatures went as low as 14.4 degrees Celsius.
The all time lowest temperature for the start of the year was recorded on January 22, 1962, when the temperature dipped as low as 7.4 degrees Celsius.
The drop in temperature was also accompanied by the fall in humidity levels, 28 percent, and an improvement in the air quality index, which stood at 160 (moderate).
The significant drop in temperature can be attributed to the northern winds passing over the city and drop in moisture levels.
