On Sunday night, a group of four unidentified men attacked an Ola driver and stole his cab from near the IMAX junction at Wadala because he refused to ferry them the second time.

The victim, Praveen Gholap, received a request for ferrying a passenger from Byculla railway station to Wadala around 10 pm on Sunday night. After reaching the station, four passenger boarded his cab.

Around 11 am, while the passengers were enroute their destination, they asked the 37-year-old driver to take them to Ghatkopar instead.

Gholap told them to place another request on the Ola app, following which he would ferry them to Ghatkopar.

“After the driver told them to book the cab again, the passengers got violent and assaulted him. He was punched, cut with a knife or similar object and eventually thrown off the car. The men fled with his car and he approached us immediately after the incident,” said an officer with Wadala TT police station.

Gholap told cops that apart from his stolen car, Swift Dzire (MH-01-BT-8974), the men had also stolen two of his phones and Rs 13,000 cash.

Wadala TT police have registered a case against the unidentified accused and are currently on the lookout for them. So far, cops have found out that the cab was booked from a stolen mobile phone.
