A temple priest died of shock three days after witnessing the aftermath of a gruesome accident, in which a 12-year-old boy died on the spot in Mumbai’s Sion Koliwada area.

The minor, Ranjit Kanojia, was travelling with his father at Salamathi Hill near Sardar Nagar area on Saturday afternoon when a truck rammed into their two-wheeler from behind.

The impact caused the minor to fall from the scooter and come under the truck. Ranjit died on the spot, while his father Manish sustained severe injuries.

According to a report in India Today, the priest, Devraj Kaliyan Devendra, went into a state of shock for three days after he saw the minor lying in a pool of blood.

Following the accident, local shopkeepers and passersby gathered around the spot. When Devendra, a priest at the nearby Thattankuttai Mariamman temple, heard the commotion on the road, he too stepped out.

However, when the 35-year-old witnessed the horrific scene, he collapsed and had to be rushed to a nearby hospital. He was reportedly declared dead after three days by the hospital after his brain nerves were believed to be damaged.

A family member later said that the priest was a sensitive person and could not recover after witnessing the accident.

“He was very sensitive person. He could never recover from shock. His daughter died eight months back due to some disease. He was staying in the nearby building with his wife and 9-year-old daughter,” the family member told the daily.

Meanwhile, the truck driver responsible for the Ranjit’s death has been apprehended and booked under relevant sections of the IPC.
