An underage driver rammed the SUV he was driving on the sidewall of a road in Powai, causing the car to fall 50-feet below in the wee hours of Thursday.
The incident occurred around 3 am near Trinity Church in Powai.
According to an officer attached to Parksite police station, the white Toyota Fortuner SUV was being driven by 17-year-old Sumit Pandey without a valid driving license. The Bhandup resident was accompanied by three girls, all aged 17. The group was on their way back to Bhandup.
“From initial investigation, it looks like Pandey lost control of the vehicle on the road leading to Kanjurmarg. The car might have been at a decent speed when it rammed into the sidewall, as it caused it to collapse. The car fell almost 50-feet before becoming stationary,” he added.
The victims informed their parents after the incident, who called the cops and informed them. Within minutes, officers reached the spot and rescued the college students. All four were rescued to Hiranandani hospital and treated for minor injuries.
