A major fire broke out at Parekh cloth mill at the Italian Industrial Estate near the Oberoi mall in Mumbai’s Goregaon area on Wednesday morning.
The blaze broke out on the ground floor of the three-storey building located in the industrial estate on Mulund Link Road. According to preliminary information, the mill would undertake dying and fabrication work for Lifestyle, among others.
Although several people were feared to be trapped in the godown, everyone managed to escape and no injury or casualty has been reported in the blaze so far.
The fire brigade control room received information about it around 7.19 am, the official of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s disaster management unit said.
Eight fire engines along with six jumbo water tankers and an ambulance rushed to the spot, he said, adding that efforts were on to douse the flames. Firefighting was underway as of 10:30 am.
The cause of the fire was not yet known and further details were awaited, he added. Meanwhile, nearby offices have been evacuated to prevent any untoward incident.
The incident comes a week after at least 16 godowns and hutments were gutted in a massive blaze at Bhiwandi’s Gayatri Nagar. Earlier, on January 19, a massive fire had broken out at the Navrang studio in the Todi Mills Compound in Lower Parel area.
