Woman arrested for kidnapping, murdering boyfriend’s 5-year-old daughter
Police have arrested a 22-year-old woman for kidnapping a little girl from outside her home in Nalasopara and strangling her to death in a women’s toilet at Gujarat’s Navsari station.
The accused, Anita Waghela, also a resident of Nalasopara, Palghar district, was arrested on Tuesday night.
The five-year-old girl was kidnapped from outside her home at Sai Arpan building in Vijay Nagar, Nalasopara East on March 24.
She was found dead in the ladies’ toilet of Navsari railway station in Gujarat, over 250 km from Mumbai, on Sunday, Additional SP Raj Tilak Roshan told reporters.
The Navsari police initially registered a case of accidental death and sent the body for a post-mortem which revealed the death was due to strangulation. Later, a murder case was filed.
A probe revealed Waghela, a daily wage labourer, had taken the girl to Navsari in a train and strangled her to death in the toilet.
A team of cops led by senior inspector Kishore Khairnar zeroed in on the woman on Tuesday night and placed her under arrest, they said and claimed she has confessed to the crime.
The woman was reportedly in a relationship with the victim’s father Santosh Saroj, an autorickshaw driver, and wanted to marry him. However, he kept delaying marriage and had forced her to undergo two abortions, the second one in February.
Santosh’s wife had left him and moved to her hometown in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh with their two-year-old son after learning about their affair.
Waghela knew that the 28-year-old loved his daughter and decided to exact her revenge by killing her. Santosh, incidentally, had even messaged Waghela asking if she had anything to do with his daughter’s kidnapping but failed to report it to the cops.
In custody, Waghela told cops that she had lured the victim with chocolates and subsequently boarded a local train to Borivali.
From there, she took a train to Gujarat, alighted at Navsari, strangled the kid in the toilet and left her there before taking a train back home.
She has been booked for kidnapping, murder and under other relevant section of the Indian Penal Code.
