18,627 kg of party drugs worth over Rs 2,000 crore seized by Thane police
In the biggest drug haul in the country, the Thane crime branch has seized 18,627 kg of ephedrine, a medicine used to make party drug Crystal Meth, worth over Rs 2,000 crore.
Five persons have been arrested in the raid, including two from the shut unit of a pharmaceutical company in Solapur.
The finished product made from the chemical is commonly known as Tina or Glass and Ice, and was allegedly to be transported to Goa. From there, it was to be dispatched to various dealers in the country as well as in the international market.
Cops suspect involvement of a Polish drug cartel.
According to Thane police Commissioner Parambir Singhm the arrest of a Nigerian, Okoyo Chinnas (30), on Monday for possession of 500 grams of suspected Mephedrone (MD) powder, popularly known as Meow Meow, proved to be a breakthrough in the case.
During interrogation, Chinnas revealed that 7 kg ephedrine was stocked in the Vasant Vihar area. Acting upon the information, the cops arrested the duo and seized 7 kg of ephedrine, a party drug, worth nearly Rs 3 crore and arrested two men, including an employee of a pharmaceutical company.
Upon investigating the case further, cops found that it was just the tip of an iceberg and came across this nation-wide drug syndicate.
