Maharashtra tops list of states with most women criminals
A report by the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) lists Maharashtra as the state with most women criminals.
According to the NRCB report, Maharashtra has most number of convicted women criminals in the nation with 95,174 arrested in last three years. After Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are the next in line with 64,916 and 56,492 arrests respectively.
In recent times, Mumbai has also witnessed a rise in the number of women criminals. While the number of male criminals increased by 22.9 percent in 2014, the number of women criminals increased by 23.1 percent in the same period.
Although there is still a big disparity between the male and female numbers, the gap is slowly reducing.
The report also shows that women are primarily associated with non-violent crimes like burglary, thefts, cheating, kidnapping etc.
Experts believe that discrimination within the society is one of the biggest reasons why most women take up or get involved in criminal activities.
