Satellite rights of Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar-starrer 2.0 sold for record Rs 110 crore
The satellite rights of superstar Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer sci-fi thriller ‘2.0’ have been acquired by Zee Network for a record Rs 110 crore.
The film is the sequel to the 2010 blockbuster ‘Enthiran’ and will be helmed by S Shankar, who had also directed the first film. While Rajinikanth will play the titular role, Akshay Kumar will be seen in the role of an antagonist in the film.
“It’s an unprecedented deal. The price of combined Indian satellite rights for the film for all the languages (Hindi, Tamil and Telugu) is Rs 110 crore. We are very happy to associate with Zee Network for the project,” Raju Mahalingam, creative head of Lyca Productions, told news agency PTI.
With this deal, 2.0 has broken the record of S. S. Rajamouli’s directorial ‘Baahubali – The Conclusion’, whose satellite rights were reportedly sold for a whopping Rs 100 crore.
Apart from the two superstars, 2.0 also stars Amy Jackson, Sudanshu Pandey, Adil Hussain and Kalabhavan Shajohn in pivotal roles.
Academy award-winning composer A R Rahman has composed the music for the project, which is said to be India’s most expensive film at a budget of Rs 450 crore.
2.0 will hit the theaters worldwide on October 18 during the festival of Diwali.
