Fire breaks out in chawl at Sainath Nagar, Thane
A fire broke out at a chawl in Sainath Nagar in the neighbouring Thane on Monday morning. No casualties were reported as of publishing this report.
Details:
Location: The fire broke out in a hutment at a chawl in Sainath Nagar area of Majiwada, Thane West.
Time: The mishap took place around 11 am today morning, following which the fire department was alerted.
Severity: Officials from the fire department have reached the spot and at least three fire engines have been pressed into service to douse the flames. An additional fire engine, water tanker and rescue vehicle were dispatched to the spot later.
Casualties & damage: No casualties have been reported so far. Some hutments, likely residential, have been gutted.
Current status: Fire fighting is underway as of publishing this report, although for most part the blaze has been brought under control. The affected area has been evacuated.
Update: The fire has been brought under control as of 1 pm.
Cause of fire: According to preliminary information, the fire was caused due to a LPG cylinder blast. It spread after the flames came in contact with three other cylinders which were suspected to be leaking, reported ANI.
The incident comes two days after a similar blaze had broke out near Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) in Mumbai’s Kurla area.
