FYJC 2018: First merit list to be declared on Thursday, July 5

The office of the Deputy Director of Education (DyDE) will announce the first general merit list for First Year Junior College (FYJC) aspirants on its admission portal on Thursday, July 5.

Provisional Merit List Out:

The centralised admission process (CAP) committee released the general merit list on June 29. The list ranked all FYJC applicants on the basis of their scores and included details like the applicant’s name, marks, caste, stream, location among others.

Since the list forms the basis of the four merit lists, students were allotted time to verify the details and submit corrections, if any, to the Deputy Director of Education in the prescribed format between June 30 and July 2.

The Deputy Director’s office submitted all corrections to the agency tasked with updating the admission portal yesterday.

1st Merit List:

The first merit list will be announced on the basis of new data, which will encompass all corrections submitted by applicants. The list is expected to be put on on the admission portal around 11 am tomorrow, although a delay of a few minutes is possible.

Once the list is up, students will be able to check the college allotted to them in the first round. The allocation will be based on the college preference list submitted by the students in the admission form.

While maximum students will be allotted colleges in the first list, only a percentage – who have been allotted their most preferred college – are expected to confirm admission.

The department has made it mandatory for students who are allotted their most preferred (first choice) college to confirm admission in the first round itself. Others will have the option for applying in subsequent rounds.

Those who wish to confirm admission in the first round will have to do so by paying the fees on or before 5 pm on July 9.

The cut-offs for top colleges are expected to be slightly higher as more students scored over 90 and 95 percent this year in comparison to 2017.

Note:

# The link for uploading or surrendering quota admission will be made available on the portal from July 6 to July 9.

# Students who cancel their admissions in bifocal or centralised rounds will be considered directly after the third round.

Bifocal Admissions:

Bifocal admissions were conducted online for the first time this year. In the first list, 7,406 students were allotted seats, while 5,057 were included in the second list. The admission process for the second list concluded on June 29.

Applicants who were not allotted seats in either round will now be assigned colleges directly in the first merit list. The colleges will be allocated on the basis of the preferences mentioned in their admission form.

Additionally, the department has also allowed colleges to shift students to bifocal courses if seats are pending after all four merit lists are out.

FYJC Stats:

Around 2.3 lakh students applied for seats in state colleges across Science, Commerce, and Arts streams this year.

Like previous years, the maximum number of students – roughly 1.4 lakh – have applied under the Commerce stream. Science and Arts, meanwhile, received around 67,000 and 19,000 applications respectively. Less than 1,500 applied for the HSC vocational stream.

The cut-off percentages are expected to be slightly higher than last year as more students scored top marks across Secondary School Certificate (SSC), Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian Certificate for Secondary Examination (ICSE).
