1. Katy Perry’s racist and homophobic slurs on Twitter left many of her 89 million followers confused and offended. But, reports later confirmed that her account had allegedly been hacked on Monday.
2. Among the many inappropriate tweets, the hackers also tweeted ‘Miss you baby’ to Katy’s rival and ‘Blank Space’ hitmaker, Taylor Swift while tagging her account.
3. Minutes later, the hacked account signed off with a tweet “haha follow @sw4ylol #hackersgonnahack”, who appears to have been responsible for the hack.
4. The hacker @sw4ylol, reportedly based out of Romania, also shared a SoundCloud link to “Witness 1.3.”, which is believed to be Katy’s unreleased song. However, the song was taken down later after a copyright claim by Universal Music Group.
5. The tweets from Katy’s account were deleted 15 minutes after they were posted and the password to the account was changed to a more complex one. Despite the platform’s security measures, the incident proved that no one’s Twitter account is completely safe – especially if they are a celebrity.
